Hosted by London Borough of Sutton in partnership with Lloyds TSB. 1 September 2010
David Weir will officially open A Century of Olympic Posters exhibition on 1 September along with a special exhibition from Lloyds TSB of works of art in tribute to him on his journey to London 2012.
The display will take place in the London Borough of Sutton, where he lives and was awarded Freedom of the Borough after his Double Gold at the Beijing Paralympics.
Oil paintings, photos and sculptures from at least six different artists will be among the items paying homage to David.
David Weir said: “I am truly honoured that my borough has brought this event together and really looking forward to the exhibition. Sunday 29 August marked two years to the start of the Paralympics in London, and I can’t wait now, it’s already two years since Beijing!”
Work by renowned artists including Jeremy Houghton, Richard Booth, Dominic Pearce, Sam Hunt and Teresa Witz will run alongside the world-renowned ‘A Century of Olympic Posters’ exhibition in Sutton Library from 1 September – 31 October. The Olympic Posters exhibition has previously been shown in Beijing and will be moving on to other international venues after Sutton.
Cllr Ruth Dombey, Deputy Leader of Sutton Council, said: “David is one of London’s most successful athletes. This exhibition shows just how proud Sutton is of his achievements and will hopefully inspire more young people to follow his lead.”
The exhibition has been created by Lloyds TSB in partnership with Sutton Council. A VIP evening will open the exhibit with David Weir as the guest of honour at Sutton Library on 1 September.
