Fourth win over the half marathon on Tyneside. 20 September 2010
David Weir was delighted to retain his title at the Great North Run on Sunday 19 September.
He clocked 44:49 to seal his victory ahead of Josh Cassidy (Canada) who finished just behind in 44:50, clear of third place Rafael Botello (Spain) in 47:23.
He said afterwards:
“I’m really pleased to win; it was an important race for me against some tough opposition. Training has been going well and now I’m looking forward to the New York Marathon in November, then the big one is the World Championships in January.”
David set a new course record at the Great North Run in 2009, to notch up his third victory. His record stands at 41:34, but conditions were not so good this year for fast times.
His next major goal is the IPC World Championships in New Zealand in January 2011.
