America’s Disabled Open Regatta at St Petersburg Yacht Club. 8 December 2010

Steve Thomas and his crew of John Robertson and Hannah Stodel, who took Silver at the IFDS World Championships this summer, finished on top at the America’s Open Regatta in Florida this week.

The Sonar GB Paralympic crew took a big victory in a field comprising two World Champions, to kick start their 2011 campaign.

After the start of their winter training in Weymouth, the crew enjoyed some training in warmer temperatures and made the most of the regatta in Florida.

Reflecting on their victory, Steve said:

“We are really happy with our performance; it was great to win with two races to spare. All the signs are encouraging; we’ve made some real gains in winter training so it’s all pretty positive.

“The line up was fairly strong with two World Champions competing, and we are looking forward to going back out to the States and competing for Miami in the New Year.”
