Top accolade at the 62nd Sports Journalists’ Association Awards. 8 December 2010
Dai Greene was honoured by the British Sports Journalists’ Association, the SJA at their Annual Awards Ceremony at the Brewery, London on the Wednesday 8 December.
He picked up the ‘Outstanding Performance of the Year Award’ presented by Andrew Castle, for his double victory at the European Championships in July and later the Commonwealth Games in Delhi, plus the IAAF Continental Cup where he beat the best in the world.
More than 300 people attended the star-studded awards lunch, hosted by the SJA President, Sir Michael Parkinson, and compered by Jim Rosenthal and John Inverdale.
Dai said afterwards: “It’s a huge honour to be recognised in this way at such a prestigious awards ceremony to round off such a big year for me. I enjoyed being in the company of such successful sportsmen and women including AP McCoy on my table! I am really proud to receive the award for my sport of athletics, amongst so many worthy winners.”
Guests who attended included former England cricket captain Alec Stewart, record-breaking swimmer, turned Strictly Come Dancing star Mark Foster, cycling world champion Emma Pooley, top gymnast Beth Tweddle, and Ryder Cup captain Colin Montgomerie, among many others.
