Non Evans wins Rugby Lifetime Achievement Award

Honoured at Rugby Writers’ Dinner in London. 11 January 2011

Non Evans was honoured at the Rugby Writers’ Dinner in London on Monday 10 January, just ten days after she announced her retirement from an outstanding international rugby career.

Non received a ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ in recognition of her exceptional career, including 87 caps for Wales and becoming top points scorer of international women’s rugby in the world.

Paul Morgan, Chairman of the Rugby Writers Association said:

“There is no doubt that Non has pushed the boundaries and done a huge amount to promote women’s rugby and indeed women’s sport.

“Her international record is nothing short of outstanding and everyone on the committee agreed that her come back from serious injury in the face of adversity was immense. Her determination and big personality is a credit to the game.”

Non Evans was shocked but proud to receive the award, she said afterwards:

“It was such an honour to win the award, especially as a woman in such a male dominated sport. The past 12 months have been huge for women’s rugby, the Rugby World Cup hosted by England was amazing for the game and I was so happy to be part of that.”
