British Super Bantamweight title fight confirmed for 5 February. 14 January 2011
Commonwealth Super Bantamweight Champion, Jamie Arthur, is preparing to bring home the British title as he takes on the current holder of the British Super Bantamweight title, Englishman Jason Booth next month.
The fight, now confirmed for Saturday 5 February, will take place at Brentwood Leisure Centre, Essex where 31-year-old Jamie will look to repeat the success he achieved in 2010. The contest is being promoted by Frank Malloney at Brentwood Leisure Centre and will be aired live on Sky Sports 1.
A Commonwealth Games Gold medallist in 2002, Jamie has more than 20 years’ boxing experience and challenged for the British Featherweight title in 2010.
His opponent, three times Commonwealth title holder Booth, has also secured the British title on three occasions and has competed in the flyweight, superweight, bantamweight and super bantamweight divisions throughout his career. The 33-year old stands at 5ft 4, a whole 5 inches shorter than Arthur; a difference which Jamie will be looking to utilise heading into the fight.
“I am pleased that the date has now been confirmed and although it is earlier than we had previously anticipated, I have trained really hard over Christmas and I know that I’ll be ready.”
Jamie will be required to ensure that his weight lies under the 8 stone 10 super bantamweight limit in the lead up to the fight, with the help of John Williams, Sports Nutritionist at PAS.
“I have always wanted to face Jason Booth and the British title has been a huge motivation for me. If I fight, I want to fight the best and I have been waiting for this opportunity for a long time.”
“The fight is just three weeks away so now is the time to get serious and to give it everything I have. We both know what is at stake and we have everything to lose. The winner has a big opportunity to go onto European and World title fights, so it doesn’t get much bigger than this! Booth has been in with the best in the world and that is exactly where I want to be.”
Jamie Baulch at Definitive added: “Jamie has remained incredibly focused in the lead up to the fight. He has trained very hard and is determined to ensure that he performs to the best of his ability. We are confident that February will be the month when he can claim the British and Commonwealth title that he deserves.”
