Definitive Clients join the British Airways Team in Cardiff. 17 March 2011

Two Definitive clients will be joining the British Airways Maintenance team in Cardiff to raise money for Comic Relief, by hosting an ‘Aircraft pull’ with its local teams at Cardiff International Airport on Red Nose Day (March 18).

Twelve teams of British Airways staff, comprising 35 members will take part in the pull supported by Olympian Matt Elias and 11 times Paralympic Champion David Roberts, both based in Cardiff leading the warm up activities. They look forward to helping to raise thousands of pounds for the charity, as well as raise awareness of the partnership.

Although the event is not open to the public, a number of children from nearby schools have been invited to attend and bring flags they have designed themselves to cheer on the teams. Since British Airways joined forces with Comic Relief in June 2010, the airline has raised in excess of £700,000* for ‘Flying Start’ – the airline’s charity partnership with Comic Relief, which aims to transform the lives of vulnerable and disadvantaged children in the UK and around the world.

Bill Kelly, British Airways general manger at Cardiff Maintenance Bay, said: “The response from our colleagues to support this event has been exceptional. I’m delighted that a large number of BA teams from across South Wales will be joining us on the day to Do Something Funny for Money, and of course Flying Start.

“I’m sure the day will be a great success and be enjoyed by all, particularly the local school children who will be here to cheer the teams on!”

At the weekend (March 13) the airline set the Guinness World Records title for ‘Highest stand up comedy gig in the world’ for Red Nose Day, raising nearly £100,000. The airline is also fundraising through activity at Gatwick airport with Dick and Dom, and a Concorde Ball in Manchester.
