Suspected fracture forces his withdrawal from British Championships. 5 April 2011

Multi Paralympic Champion David Roberts has suffered a suspected fracture to his elbow whilst training that has forced him to withdraw from the British International Disability Swimming Championships this weekend.

David has achieved the qualification time for the IPC Swimming European Championships but now has a question mark over his ability to compete at the competition.

“I am bitterly disappointed to sustain this injury at such a crucial time in my preparations targeting the European Championships,” said Roberts.

“However I’m confident in my ability to bounce back and still have Berlin very much in my sights.”

He will now see a specialist and work with British Swimming support staff who will assess the level of his injury and how long he will need to take out of the water.

National Performance Director John Atkinson said: “We will provide David with the support he needs while the level of his injury is assessed.

“We wish David a speedy recovery and we will put a rehab programme in place that will see him return to his best.”
