Boxing theme at launch of show homes at Merthyr Tydfil. 8 April 2011

Bellway Homes is set to welcome Commonwealth Games boxing champion Jamie Arthur to open its newest development in Merthyr Tydfil on Saturday 9 April.

At the launch of the Cwm Faenor development which consists of 73 luxury homes on Swansea Road, Jamie will unveil a special bedroom with a boxing theme in one of show homes.

Jamie Arthur, of Cwmbran, was a Commonwealth Games Gold medallist in 2002 and has boxed for more than 20 years, turning professional in 2003. He has boxed in 21 fights, winning an impressive 17 and his experience also includes challenging for the British Featherweight title in 2011. Jamie is the only Welsh boxer to have won both a Commonwealth Games gold medal and a Commonwealth Professional title.

There are two show homes at Cwm Faenor in Merthyr which will be officially launched by Jamie between 12pm-3pm on Saturday. Housebuilder Bellway is providing boxing gloves for youngsters and a punch bag so they can pick up some tips with Jamie. After the launch event, the punch bag signed by Jamie will be auctioned off for charity and all visitors will be invited to bid.

Jamie Arthur said: “Coming to meet some of the local community at Cwm Faenor will be a great day. As a local boxer, it is great to have the opportunity to meet the people who are behind you when you fight and also to be able to share your experience with them. I’m looking forward to putting on my gloves with the visitors and showing them how it’s done.”
