Dan Lucker Takes Five Medals in Dubai

Part of record GB medal haul at IWAS World Junior Games. 21 April 2011

As defending World Junior Champion in five events, Dan Lucker travelled to Dubai having recovered from a virus, which was far from ideal preparation for the Championships taking place from 17-21 April.

On day one of the IWAS World Junior Games, in his best event the T54 1500m, Dan’s racing chair had a puncture just as the field lined up for the race which meant he was forced to withdraw from the event.

He struck Bronze on day two, in the T54 100m, with a time of 16.64 seconds. He followed this with two Silver medals in the T54 200m (29.22) and 800m (1:59.54).

On the final day of competition, Dan sealed his first Gold in the T54 400m (56.57) and took another Silver in the 5,000m (15:18).

Dan’s five medals contributed to a record medal haul of 45 for the Aviva Great Britain and Northern Ireland team.
