Diamond League victory for Dai in Lausanne

Dai beats 2009 World Champion and Silver medallist. 1 July 2011

Dai took a step closer to the IAAF World Championships in Daegu last night with a comfortable victory over the best in the world in Lausanne.

Following top three positions in Rome and New York, Dai clocked 48.41 seconds to seal first place ahead of Puerto Rican Javier Culson and America’s Justin Gaymon. His training partner at the University of Bath, Jack Greene was fourth in 49.44secs.

Dai now stands in second place in the Samsung Diamond League rankings, behind South African Lj Van Zyl. He said to BBC Sport afterwards:

‘For the six or seven months of training I do in winter I don’t imagine winning the silver medal. In an individual sport you have to believe you can win.

I know I’m very close to the British record but I’ve been training so hard in the last few weeks and I want to save my best for the Championships.

I’m ahead of schedule if anything so there’s pressure on me not to train so hard, but I need to keep pushing if I want to stay in the top three come the World Championships.’

Dai’s next race will be the Aviva Birmingham Grand Prix in Birmingham on Sunday 10 July, to find out more visit www.uka.org.uk
