Ambassador role with Noah’s Ark Appeal on countdown to London 2012. 28 July 2011
David Roberts, met young patients at the Children’s Hospital for Wales to mark the one year count down to London 2012, in his new role as a Charity Champion for the Noah’s Ark Appeal on Wednesday 27 July.
David is already the face of the Noah’s Ark Appeal’s Splish Splash Splosh campaign, to fund a hydrotherapy pool at the Children’s Hospital for Wales. Diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy at the age of 11, David received hydrotherapy until adulthood and today credits the water based physiotherapy for managing his disability and inspiring him to take up a highly successful swimming career. He has since gone on to become one of the most successful Paralympians ever, with a Gold medal tally that already equals that of Dame Tanni Grey-Thompson.
David said: “I was delighted to be given the opportunity to visit the Children’s Hospital for Wales, it was a great privilege to meet the patients and staff who work day to day at the hospital. The work has never stopped and the Noah’s Ark Appeal now needs to raise a further £7million to equip Phase Two. I know how important equipment such as a hydrotherapy pool is, I feel very strongly about the need for the pool and as Charity Champion I want to urge people to get involved and make this campaign a huge success.”
Suzanne Mainwaring, Director of the Noah’s Ark Appeal said; “We are thrilled that David found the time to visit the Children’s Hospital for Wales on this special day a year before London 2012. David is an inspiration to each and every child in Wales and we are very proud to name him as our Charity Champion.”
