David Weir Among Six British Nominations. 15 December 2011

David Weir, Double Paralympic Champion and three times World Champion(2011) has been named as one of six nominees in the Sportsperson with a Disability Category announced by Laureus World Academy members Lord Coe, Sean Fitzpatrick, Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson and Daley Thompson.

David will be one of the most recognisable athletes taking part in next summer’s Paralympic Games in London and will be one of Britain’s best hopes for a Gold medal.

Laureus World Sports Academy Chairman Edwin Moses said: ‘This has been a great year for sport and the Academy are going to find it extremely difficult to decide who to vote for.

We have had several massive performances both by individuals and teams and that has been reflected in the nominations, I look forward to what should be a great awards ceremony.’

The 2012 Laureus World Sports Awards Ceremony, which will be attended by the greatest names in sport, post and present, and broadcast to a worldwide TV audience, will be staged in the heart of London at Central Hall, Westminster on the evening of Monday, February 6.
