Olympian Jade Jones receives MBE at Buckingham Palace

Jones was the youngest Gold Medal Winner at London 2012.  10 May 2013

Britain’s Olympic Taekwondo Champion, Jade Jones visited the Palace this morning to receive the MBE she was awarded in the New Year’s Honours List.

Jade attended the ceremony with her mum and grandparents and received the award from His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales.

Following the ceremony, Jade reflected upon her achievement.

“I’m extremely excited to have received my MBE. It’s a very special day for me and for my mum, granddad and nana.

I’d like to thank all of the staff at GB Taekwondo for their help and hard work, especially my coach Paul Green. Without Paul I wouldn’t have been able to win the Olympic gold medal.

And of course I’d like to thank my granddad for introducing me to the sport and supporting me throughout my career.

Having met the Queen a couple of years ago it was an honour to meet Prince Charles. He said that I had done well to get the morning off training and he asked about Rio and my next competition, which is the World Championships in July.

I hope that by receiving my MBE it will continue to highlight the sport and the success of the GB team.

Sarah Stevenson received her award last year and it shows that taekwondo is becoming better known and recognised for being a fantastic Olympic sport.”
