International Hurdler and Sportsman Dai Greene has helped to raise more than £100.00 for charity after auctioning off a hand-carved pumpkin at a shop in Bruton.
Dai Greene, the second fastest British man to tackle the 400m hurdles behind British record holder Kriss Akabusi, visited Symonds Budgens of Bruton on Saturday the 26th October with girlfriend Sian Davies bringing with them their two hand carved pumpkins, these were put under the hammer to shoppers.
After an exciting auction, the highest bidders won Dai’s personalised pumpkin for £30.00 with Sian’s closely behind with a winning bid of £25.00.
Inspired by the pumpkin giveaway, customers pledged an extra £50.00 to the cause giving a grand total of £105.00, which was donated to Young Epilepsy - a charity which helps to give a better future to children and young people with epilepsy.
Budgens of Bruton was full of local fans that were passionate about athletics and came along just to see Dai and Sian in action. They were joined by Store Manager, Bernard Strong who assisted him with the auction.
He said, ‘We sell hundreds of pumpkins for the Halloween Season and its great to see how the excited children get when they leave the store with their pumpkin ready for carving.
Having the support of an International star like Dai to help us raise the profile of these good causes in our own community is fantastic. We are very committed to charity fund raising and are always pleasantly surprised by the support we get from our customers and store teams on these occasions.
Young Epilepsy is a charity that is very close to my own heart and I’m really grateful to Dai for coming along to help make it a fun day for everyone.’
