Impressive wins for Dai Greene and Dan Lucker

Three Golds for pair at the Welsh Championships. 13 June 2010

The Welsh Championships incorporating Aviva Parallel Success events doubled as the trials for the 2010 Commonwealth Games this weekend in Cardiff.

Dai Greene was racing over 400m and looked in great form as he clocked 46.38 seconds for victory in the final on Saturday afternoon. Matt Elias also lined up in the 400m final. He went off hard and was leading at 200m, before pulling out of the race with cramp, which he had suffered from in qualifying earlier in the day.

Dai Greene now based at the University of Bath said: “I wanted to go faster today but the conditions didn’t really allow for it. I’m pleased with my performance because the 400m flat is not an event I do very often.”

He is now looking forward to racing for the GB & NI team at the European Team Championships next weekend in Norway.

Dan Lucker was happy with his performances that sealed two Golds in the Men’s wheelchair 400m on Saturday and 200m on Sunday. He also took Bronze in both the 1500m and 800m which included some strong international competition.

In very windy conditions, Dan’s 400m time of 53.9 seconds was close to his personal best of just under 53 seconds and shows he is in great form in his build up to the IWAS Junior Championships this summer.

The Welsh team for the Commonwealth Games is expected to be named by Welsh Athletics at the end of June.
